Pere David Deer Trophy Fee

Trophy Fee: $8,500

Platinum Class: TBD

Père David’s deer (Elaphurus davidianus) are one of the most remarkable deer species in the world. They were once kept in captivity at the Imperial Hunting Park near Beijing, China, and were introduced to Western science in the 1800s after being observed by Père Armand David. After the original herd in China was lost during the Boxer Rebellion, the species survived through animals that had previously been sent to Europe—forming the foundation of today’s global population, including managed herds and reintroduction efforts in China.

A mature Père David’s bull can stand around 5 feet at the shoulder and weigh up to approximately 550 pounds. Bulls carry distinctive, branched antlers and a longer tail with a tuft, giving the species a look that’s instantly recognizable.

Because these deer are large-bodied, hunters commonly choose centerfire rifles and appropriate ammunition and prioritize ethical shot placement for a clean harvest. A permit is required for all hunting activities, ensuring responsible and regulated wildlife management.
