At Texas Hunt Lodge, we offer a unique opportunity to hunt genuine African Porcupine right here in Texas. As far as we know, we’re one of the only ranches where you can hunt African Porcupine outside of Africa. These impressive creatures, also known as crested porcupines (Hystrix cristata), make for exceptional life-size trophies. Although not native to North America, these intriguing mammals have successfully adapted to the environment, offering hunters an exciting challenge.
Our African Porcupine hunts are available year-round, with no seasonal restrictions, making it a suitable trophy pursuit at any time of the year. Whether you’re looking to add to your trophy collection or experience the thrill of hunting these fascinating animals, we’re here to make it happen. The African Porcupine, typically a nocturnal herbivore, feeds on a variety of vegetation including roots, bulbs, fruits, and tree bark. Its unique diet and behavior make it a fascinating subject of pursuit.
When it comes to hunting methods, we typically let our hunters choose their preferred approach. However, we recommend using a .17 or .22 rifle, or a .410 shotgun for this hunt. While it’s not a difficult hunt, it’s sure to provide an exciting and unique experience. The porcupine’s sharp quills, or spines, act as a formidable defense mechanism, making the hunt additionally thrilling. The target may be small, but the reward is substantial.
