Summer is one of the best times of year for exotic hunting in Texas. Because exotic species are managed as game on private land, there are no closed seasons, so summer offers warm-weather stalks, peak antler quality on several species, and wide-open scheduling. At Texas Hunt Lodge in the Texas Hill Country, summer is also when we run some of our best trophy specials of the year.
Can you hunt exotics year-round in Texas?
Yes. Exotic species in Texas are classified as game on private land, so there are no closed seasons or bag limits. That means you can book an exotic hunt any month of the year, including all summer. It is one of the biggest advantages of hunting exotics over native species, which are tied to state season dates.
What are the best exotic species to hunt in summer in Texas?
Summer is prime time for several of our most popular species, led by the Axis rut. The Axis deer rut typically peaks from late spring into summer, when mature bucks are in hard antler and most active, making it the top summer target at Texas Hunt Lodge. Other strong summer species include Aoudad, Blackbuck, Scimitar Horned Oryx, Gemsbok, and the African plains species like Kudu and our gazelles. With more than 90 species available, there is always something in season.
