Texas Hunt Lodge offers the opportunity to hunt and harvest Trophy Waterbuck year-round. Our Trophy Waterbuck are the Common variety, not the Defasa type. With no seasonal restrictions on hunting Waterbuck in Texas, they make for a suitable trophy at any time of the year. Hunters have the flexibility to choose their preferred hunting method for Trophy Waterbuck, whether it’s Spot and Stalk, Bow Hunting, Rifle Hunting, Black Powder, Safari Style Hunting, Handgun, or hunting from a Blind. We cater to hunters of all ages and experience levels, guiding them through the savannah-like terrain of the Texas Hill Country.
Originating from the plains of sub-Saharan Africa, Waterbuck are robust antelopes known for their shaggy coats and distinctive white markings on their rumps. Introduced to Texas for hunting purposes, they thrive in the Hill Country landscape, adapting well to the bush and grassland environment. The Trophy Waterbuck we hunt typically have horns in the 26-28 inch range, making each shot a testament to the skills in stalking and camouflage developed with the help of experienced guides.

The Common Waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus ellipsiprymnus), native to Africa, can be hunted year-round in Texas. The Waterbuck is a large, shaggy, gray and brown antelope with a white ring around its rump.
The Common Waterbuck males have heavy ringed horns shaped like a crescent. The Waterbuck’s horns typically range 20 inches long and upwards of 28-30 inches in giant trophy Waterbuck. Observing through binoculars, hunters can witness these magnificent game animals drinking at least twice daily, in the morning and late afternoon—in fact, they drink more than a West Texas Cow does in a day.
Rutting Waterbuck males are very aggressive—they may even fight males of other species and kill them. They will easily hybridize with Defassa Waterbuck and possibly even with Lechwe.
